Description: Air vents that are located at ground level in buildings typically permit free airflow and evaporated moisture through the exterior wall of a building.

However in times of flooding, water may easily find a way into a building through the ground level vent and flood the interior causing considerable water damage to flooring, carpets and furniture.

This vent comprises a rectangular vent housing forming an airflow channel or passageway between a front face and a rear face of the housing. Seated inside vent passageway is a flap valve that is mounted by pivots to each sidewall of the passageway. The flap is also fitted with a float made from buoyant material, which is secured along the upper edge.

During dry conditions, the flap rests horizontally on the floor of the vent passageway permitting free airflow through the building's wall. In the presence of water flow, the float is raised by rising water levels positioning the flap in a vertical position and sealing off the vent passageway thereby preventing the ingress of water into the building.
