New Idea
Custom-fit helmet

Description: Though motorcycle safety helmets are manufactured in a range of average head sizes they cannot accommodate all the minor variations in head shapes, which differ from one rider to another. For this reason manufacturers rely on the inner foam padding to compress and adapt to the contours of the wearer's skull by tightening the chinstrap.

An over-tightened chinstrap merely concentrates pressure on the chin and crown area of the skull with less support along the jaw line, sides of the skull and base of the neck.

This helmet design provides an improved fit for the wearer by incorporating an inflatable bladder. The bladder consists of a single-piece rubber cell that is sandwiched between the helmet's polystyrene padding and the inner felt lining, which contacts the skull. The bladder is inflated by means of a bite valve, which is provided at the base of the bladder.

In use, the helmet is donned with the bladder deflated and the chinstrap tightened. Using the bite valve, the user then gradually inflates the bladder forcing the inner lining into contact with the contours of the skull and neck of the helmet wearer. The helmet may be removed without deflating the bladder thereby ensuring a custom fit each time the helmet is worn.
